Notes from Office Hours 10/21/21

Alice has office hours.

Hey everyone! Here are some notes and resources

Things will be lite this week. I am traveling to see my mom in California who is dying of Alzheimers. I am keynoting an event in Oklahoma and will be back Halloween afternoon. I will be checking the Check In form frequently. Please let me know how I can support you this week.

Splice YouTube into Slides

You can use the format options when you insert a youtube video into slides to have it auto play and to have it start and end at a specific time. Now duplicate the slide and set the start and end minutes to be different so you don't have to show the whole video but rather 2 segments.

Teachers are Tired. Students are Tired

We are noticing that coming back to face to face.... we are burned o ut. And the students just are not having it with going "back to normal." They are not giving an inch in terms of faking engagement.

Try Small Groups - Station Rotation

START WITH STUDENTS THINKING... then they rotate to you. Remember the Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, Evaluate lesson plan model. (http://alicekeeler.com/5es) In this Google Slides Diana Herrington STARTED with students in small groups. The students break into job alikes to explain a concept they explored and then go back to their groups to teach each other. THEN 3rd ... the teacher does some talking.

Learning Sherpa

Lesley Johnson - We all climbing the. mountain together. Teacher is along side the students and not pulling them up the mountain. You can show them the way but they have to do the work.

The person doing the thinking is the person doing the learning.

Essential Questions - Do they stink of school?

Does your question imply the learning objective... try "Can you jump the grand canyon with a tricycle?" What is the math lesson... I didn't say "How do quadratics help you jump the grand canyon."
