Why Use Canvas Commons?
Are you teaching a new course this year? Are you a new Canvas user? Would you like to upgrade some of your lessons or content? Then, Canvas Commons is perfect for your needs. “Canvas Commons is a learning object repository that enables educators to find, import, and share resources.” Canvas Commons is a digital library full of educational content where educators find resources, import resources, share resources to commons, and update or modify a resource.
How To Use Canvas Commons
Once you are logged into Canvas, click on Commons, on the left sidebar and begin searching by subject or specific topics. Complete Courses, Modules, Pages, Assignments, Discussions, Images, and Quizzes can be imported into your course. Each source has a specific colored icon to make it easy to identify which resource you are viewing. When searching for topics some things to consider are, the grade level of the source, the number of downloads, and favorites which might inform you of the quality of the resource and if it will be of interest to you and your students. Once you find a source you are interested in you can favorite it, to come back to it later, click on the title and preview the resource, copy the resource link, or import/download the resource. When downloading, a list of your created courses will appear and you can select which course you want the resource to appear in.
