Who doesn't love to play games! Shut the box is a fun game and with this Google Slides version you can play remotely. It's super fun! Make a copy of the template. Wait for the Add-on to load. You will see a menu "Shut the Box" next to the help menu.
Authorize
As with all of my Add-ons this collects NO user data. NO PII. You will need to authorize the Add-on. Choose one of the options from the menu. It will notice you are not authorized and prompt you. Then, you will need to do the action again since now you are authorized to do it.
Add Pieces
The first thing you want to do is "Add Pieces" to your board.
2 Player
You can play with as many people as you want! Share the Google Slides with editing access. Each person chooses "New Round" from the Shut the Box menu. Each person plays on their own slide. Suggestion, only one person at a time. Everyone look at Suzie's slide while Suzie is playing. When I am playing remotely we always do screenshare and video chat. Suzie plays until she can not play anymore. Then we all move to Jose's slide. Jose's turn, let's watch Jose play and celebrate and strategize with Jose.
The Rules
You can choose to roll 1 die or 2 dice ... sort of. You MUST roll 2 (no option) so long as the 7, 8, or 9 tile are present.
The sum of the dice is your target number. (add the 2 dice together)
You must remove an equal sum from the number tiles. (delete the tile)
For example.. you roll a 5 and a 6. This has a sum of 11. Assuming they are available you could the 9 and 2 tile. OR the 5 and 4 and 2 tile. OR 1 tile, 2 tile, 3 tile, and the 5 tile.... whatever combination of tiles you still have available that still add up to the sum of the dice.
Roll the Dice
Use the Shut the Box menu to roll 2 dice. (or you can choose one die if you have eliminated all the big tiles: 7, 8, 9). This will place 2 large die on the board. Add up the two die. Notice in the picture I rolled a 2 and a 2. I could delete the ONE tile of a 4. OR I can delete the 1 and the 3.
It is still your turn. You keep rolling until you can not roll anymore.
Notice in my 2nd roll I have a 5 and a 2. The sum is 7. I removed the 7 tile. I could have done the 5 and 2. (If the 1 was still available I could have done 6 and 1)
After rolling a 6 and 1 I needed to remove a sum of 7. I deleted the 2 and 5 tile.
End of Round
When you can NOT remove the sum of your dice the round is over.
I rolled a 1 and a 4. I could not remove 5 from the tiles. My turn is over.
Points
This is like golf, you want the LOWEST number of points. Add up the remaining tiles. So for this example I have a 4, 6, 8, and 9 left. This adds up to 27. Can you beat 27 points? Bet you can, that was pretty terrible 🙂
